Living in a rain-forest has its perks. People may not remember that the Appalachian Mountains are covered by one of a very few temperate climate rain-forests in the world. The sounds from the front porch every morning make it glaringly obvious.

Great stuff…we too love listening to the birds…we have a mockingbird with an impressive catalog of imitations. Look forward to hearing from him every day!

Here we have very few mockingbirds. The diversity of species is astounding, but only few of each species. We spotted a Scarlet tanager last week and what we thought was an indigo bunting on the same day. Baltimore Orioles are commonplace every year.
